Sarah "Peggy" Peel
Taylor Funeral Home of Louisville announces the death and services of Sarah Peel, age 79, of Gulfport, FL, who passed away October 28, 2017.
A memorial gathering will be held 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 18, 2017 in the Vidette Methodist Church Social Hall, 141 North College Ave., Vidette, GA 20830.
Sarah, also known as "Peggy" to family and hometown friends, was born April 13, 1938 in Vidette, GA, to G.S. and Martha B. Peel. She graduated from Waynesboro High School and at the age of 60. She received her Bachelor of Arts Degree at Eckerd College. Sarah had a career as Senior Services Coordinator at the Gulfport Multipurpose Senior Center, where she received many awards, including Most Caring Social Worker. She rode her bike 100 miles to raise money and awareness for the Gulfport Senior Center. She was named Employee of the Year in 2004. In recognition of her generosity, humor, kindness, compassion, and gentleness, Michael Yates, then Mayor of Gulfport, proclaimed September 26th Sarah Peel Day in Gulfport. She had many unique and various interests, including running, snow skiing, gardening, attending opera, symphony, and theater performances. She was passionate about reading and sharing the ideas she found therein. Sarah participated, with her best friend Bill Distel, in the Florida Senior Games State Championship and the St. Petersburg, FL Goodlife Games. She completed two Walt Disney World Marathons.
Sarah is survived by three brothers: Bob, Gilbert and Leslie and her four children: Martha Hardy, Gilbert Brown, Betsey Silva and Katherine Hunter, who hold her belief "make the world a better place” close to their hearts.
