Taylor Funeral Home announces the death and funeral services of Mr. Bobby Lee Gordy, 85, of Louisville, who passed away Monday afternoon, December 17th in Jefferson Hospital.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, December 22, 2018, in the chapel of Taylor Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Cain officiating. Burial will follow at Ways Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Ken McCard, Wes Gordy, Johnny Gordy, Jay Allen, Bobby Allen and Mark Gordy, all nephews of Mr. Gordy.
A native of Louisville, Mr. Gordy was a son to the late Robert Lee Gordy and Ebbie Ganus Gordy. After his graduation from Louisville Academy High School, he joined the US Air Force and served for 4 years. After his discharge from the Air Force in 1956, he used his GI Bill benefits to obtain an undergraduate degree from Mercer University, graduating in 1961. His love for writing and journalism led him to pursue a post graduate degree in journalism from the Henry W. Grady School of Journalism at the University of Georgia, where he graduated in 1963.
Bobby worked for several newspapers throughout the state of Georgia in the 1960’s which included: The Augusta Chronicle, The Macon Telegraph and the Savannah Morning News. Health issues caused him to retire at a relatively young age, however, he continued to write and report for the late Jim Horton, who at that time was the editor and publisher of the News and Farmer in Louisville.
Bobby was known in the community for his generous nature. He was a member of Ways Baptist Church.
Bobby is preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Robert Lowe Gordy, Harry Edward Gordy, Frank Wesley Gordy, Sr., James Thomas Gordy, and a sister, Julia Gordy Allen.
Bobby is survived by his brother, John Judson Gordy Sr. of Louisville, and his sister Evelyn Gordy McCard of Albany, Georgia, several nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews.
The Gordy family will receive friends Saturday, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM prior to the service, at the Funeral Home.
