Bill Newberry Obituary

Taylor Funeral Home of Louisville announces the death and funeral services of Mr. William H. (Bill) Newberry, Jr., age 74, of Louisville, who died Friday morning at Jefferson Hospital. 

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, June 21st at the Louisville United Methodist Church with Rev. Dan Underwood officiating. Pallbearers will be Lloyd Newberry, Hal Newberry, Charlie Newberry, Fred Kopp, Robert Newberry, and Daniel Newberry.  Honorary Pallbearers will be the members of the Buddy Carroll Sunday School Class of Louisville United Methodist Church.

Mr. Newberry was born in Macon but moved with his parents to Louisville as a baby where he grew up.  Bill and Margaret married in 1970, lived in Augusta until moving to Gainesville, Georgia in 1972.  They made their home in Gainesville and resided there until they moved to Louisville in 2000.  Bill is a son of William H. Newberry, Sr. and Mary K. “Pete” Peters.  He graduated from University of Georgia with a bachelor’s degree in 1969 and was the CEO of AgGeorgia Farm Credit in Perry.

Bill was a member of the Louisville United Methodist Church (LUMC).  He served on the Administrative Council of LUMC and was an active member of the Buddy Carroll Sunday School Class.  Bill served his hometown of Louisville well with his community involvement and support.  Over the years, Bill served on many boards and committees including Louisville Downtown Development, Jefferson County Hospital Foundation Executive Board, Art Guild, and Thomas Jefferson Academy (TJA) Grandparents Club.

Bill was a devoted and loving husband, father, son, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend.  All who knew him could not help but love and admire him.  Above all, he was a good and faithful servant of his Heavenly Father.

Mr. Newberry is predeceased by his parents and his sister Mary Kay Newberry.  He is survived by his loving wife Margaret, daughters Amy Chapman (Tim) of Louisville, Julie Taylor (Steve) of Gainesville, son John Newberry (Kelley) of Louisville, brothers Richard Newberry of Louisville, Steve Newberry (Tina) of Louisville, sisters Sheryl Newberry of Athens, Jeanne Swindle (Buck) of St. Simons, 12 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Monday, June 20, from 6 to 8 pm at Taylor Funeral Home, Louisville.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Louisville United Methodist Church building fund.

Funeral Home and Cremation Care of Louisville will handle arrangements.
