Donnie Smith Obituary

Taylor Funeral Home of Louisville announces the death and funeral services of Mr. Donnie Smith, age 74, of Stapleton, who died Friday, December 30, 2022, at AU Medical Center in Augusta.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM, Thursday, January 5, 2023, in the Chapel of Taylor Funeral Home in Louisville with Rev. Tim Pendry officiating, burial will follow in Waldens United Methodist Church Cemetery in Avera with Military Honors. Pallbearers will be Richard Bopp, Andrew Bopp, William Bopp, Tyler Smith, Tanner Smith, and Ben Judd.

A native of Louisville Donnie was a son of the late Donnell Albert Smith, Sr., and Sadie Reese Smith. He was a proud Vietnam Veteran serving his country as a Marine and received several medals including the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnamese Service Medal, Vietnamese Cross of Gallentry and Vietnamese Campaign Medal. He retired from Thermo King after more than 25 years of service as an inspector.  Donnie was a member of Walden’s United Methodist Church in Avera and would attend Duharts Baptist Church and a longtime member of the VFW. Donnie. Donnie in his spare time loved to watch Nascar racing and pulled for Richard Petty, the Georgia Bull Dawgs, and collecting Antiques, but his favorite pass time was spending time with his family.

Donnie was predeceased in death by his parents, a brother Tommy Smith, father-in-law Webb Snow, mother-in-law Farrie Snow, brother-in-law Ronnie Graham and sister-in-law Marcie Freed, and is survived by his wife of 52 years, Kathy Snow Smith, of Stapleton  Daughter Tracy C. Deen (Danny) of Gibson, son Eric Smith (Lynn) of Wrens, grandsons Richard Bopp (Dianne) of Gibson, Andrew Bopp (Jessica) of Gibson, William Bopp of Gibson, Tyler Smith (Rachel) of Evans, Tanner Smith (Joselyne) of Aiken, granddaughter Erica Judd (Ben) of Wrens, 11 great grandchildren, sister in law Carol Graham of Catron, MO, brother in law David Freed of Morley, MO, several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews and lifelong friends.

The family will receive friends 12:00 to 2:00 PM Thursday, January 5, 2023, at Taylor Funeral Home in Louisville.
