Taylor Funeral Home of Louisville announces the death and funeral services of Mrs. Joyce Baker Hardzog, age 98, who passed away May 7, 2023, in Flower Mound, Texas.
Graveside services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday May 17, 2023, in the Louisville City Cemetery with Dr. Bill Cain officiating.
She was born to Nesbit and Pearl Greene Baker on January 13, 1925. A graduate of Louisville Academy, she went on to get her nursing degree from Emory University Nursing Cadet Corps program in 1947. Her nursing practice included positions as the head nurse at the Louisville Hospital, as a polio nurse in North Carolina and Colorado, and as an industrial nurse for Kiplinger in Washington D.C. In 1953, she married James Ray Hardzog and was a homemaker. She was a member of Westbury Baptist Church, member of the DAR and Delphians. Her home was Houston, Tx. for 48 years before moving to Duluth, Ga for 14 years near her daughter Jane Anne Stokes. The last 4 years she lived in Flower Mound, Tx near her daughter Martha Cotton. Beloved by her family and many friends, she enjoyed visiting with them and coming home to Louisville.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, James Ray Hardzog and by her son, Jim Hardzog.
She is survived by her daughters Jane Anne Stokes (David) and Martha Cotton (Keith), daughter-in-law Darlene B. Hardzog, her sister Ruth Baker Avirett, her grandchildren: Paul Stokes, Melissa Stokes Peterson (Casey), Sam Stokes, Jared Cotton (Michele), Kevin Cotton, Elizabeth Cotton Mills (Matt), and Savannah Hardzog, many nieces and nephews and 6 great grandchildren.
