Taylor Funeral Home of Louisville announces the death of Mr. Kenneth Lamar Baxley, age 64 of Louisville, who passed away to his heavenly home on April 3, 2020 at 8:00 pm at Doctor’s Hospital in Augusta, GA.

Graveside services with SOCIAL DISTANCING will be held 3:00 PM Tuesday April 7, 2020 in the Louisville City Cemetery with Rev. Jonathan Witt & Mr. Jerry Taylor officiating. The services may be watched on the Taylor Funeral Homes Facebook page starting at 2:55 PM.

Lamar was born in Brunswick, GA on January 2, 1956 a son of the late Joseph Baxley & Mrs. Ruth Matthews Baxley of Milledgeville. He moved to Louisville in 1965 with his parents. Lamar loved his community and his Lord Jesus Christ.  He loved to serve others as was witnessed by the way he lived his life, always putting others first. Lamar served in the Air National Guard for 23 years. He began working with the Louisville Fire Department November 1, 1974 While on the fire department, he worked his way up the ranks to fire chief in 2004 and retired December 2015, after 41 years of service. Lamar had worked in every department with the city of Louisville from sanitation to Fire Chief. He was also an EMT as well as a first responder.  Lamar also was a decorated police officer for the city of Warrenton having received the Medal of Valor for apprehending a bank robbery suspect in under three minutes on May 2, 2011. Lamar served on the Louisville Police Department for many years, was Chief of Bartow and of Stapleton Police Departments and hade worked with the Glascock County Sheriff’s Department for several years. Lamar loved being of service to anyone who needed help.  In more recent years one his proudest accomplishments were becoming a Master Mason in Louisville Stonewall Lodge # 98F&AM where he enjoyed his fellowship with his brothers and service to the community.  He was also a member of the Augusta Scottish Rite, was a member in good standing where he served as a “Tiler.” A member of the Eastern Star Cleopatra #241 in Warrenton. He was also a member of the Augusta Shrine Club and the Alee Temple.  He was a member of the Amaranth Unity Court 21 in Martinez that works with Juvenile diabetes. Lamar had a great love for children and especially children that needed any kind of help.  He served as a deacon and former Sunday School Superintendent at Louisville First Baptist Church. He also had a special bond with “Seniors” and would drive the church bus for the Senior day out so he could spend time with them.      

Lamar is proceeded in death by his father, son, William Baxley who passed away at the age of 15, brothers, James Baxley and Joey Baxley and is survived his loving and faithful wife, of 25 years Carol Baxley, of Louisville, their daughter, Hillary (Matt) Tiner, of Canton and granddaughter, Olivia Tiner who dearly loved her “Poppi.”  Poppi surely loved and cherished his time with her. Lamar also had 3 sisters Mary Elaine Phillips of Knoxville, TN; Joann Herring of Milledgeville; Bernice Read of Eatonton; 2 brothers, Ronald Baxley and David Baxley, both of Milledgeville, several nieces & nephews
